Film character, in detail.

The grain engine

theLAB Cinema pairs animated grain plates with profiles for the selected film and format. Grain changes from frame to frame, with its strength and color shaped across shadows, midtones and highlights.

That attention to motion, scale and tonal response is central to reproducing the texture of real film. Fine-tune softness, granularity and streaks, adjust red, green and blue grain separately, or use nine tonal zones to place texture precisely.

Film color

Choose cinema negative, photographic color, reversal or black-and-white stocks. Each selection brings together its film color and matching texture settings, ready to refine for your shot.

Halation & diffusion

Shape the glow around bright edges with film-specific halation profiles. Adjust its strength, spread and color, with diffusion controls for a broader, softer response to light.

Development & print

Refine exposure, push/pull processing, color density and contrast. Printer-light controls and print styles shape the final balance, while fine and coarse detail controls tune the image’s definition.

Available controls vary with the selected film system.

Camera & display transforms

Built-in camera log, wide-gamut and color-managed workflows.
